The events of Anno 2070 takes place in a fairly distant future. The name becomes clear that the players will make the trip not in previous centuries. Before them the aim would be to build and develop gigantic cities in the distant year 2070. Of course, the futuristic scenario simply could not do without surprises from nature — global climate change, to which people had perforce to adapt. One such change has made an unprecedented rise in sea level, which left from the huge continents only pitiful scraps of land.

On these small Islands life players Anno 2070 and will build their mighty Empire. They are invited to serve on the side with one of the factions — Tycoons (Tycoons) or Environmentalists (Ecos). It is from this choice depends, as will change the whole world of Anno 2070.
