Arriving in Rome from Chicago, where he works as a doctor, a former priest James Murphy responds to a mysterious call for help from his friend Christopher. The disappearance of the suitcase containing incriminating documents enough to convince James that his friend - a victim of something dark and sinister. The involvement of the Vatican and some strange parallels with his own troubled past inspire James get to the bottom of this mystery.

At its dangerous and alarming way James meets the least suitable companion that will test the strength of his deepest convictions. Thus the two heroes begin their physical adventure in search of truth and metaphysical study the depths of the soul and the darkest secrets that hide everything, even such a "defender of the faith" as James.
