Forensic Problems 1-3

Task No. 1.
1. During the investigation of a criminal case regarding the commission of a robbery, it became necessary to present a suspect to identify the victim. During the interrogation, the victim explained that the young man was plump, long-haired, with a mustache and beard. However, the suspect Kuraev, who was in custody, lost a lot of weight during his stay in the pre-trial detention center, and for hygienic purposes, all the hair on his head was shaved off, except for his eyebrows.
Determine the possibility of presentation for identification in this situation. What should an investigator do in this situation?
2.Task No. 2.
Citizen Voronin was detained on suspicion of stealing a DVD player, but he denied involvement in the crime. Witness Polyakova testified that in the evening from the window of her apartment she saw the suspect Voronin, who was leaving the victim’s entrance and carrying a DVD player under his arm. Suspect Voronin, proving his non-involvement in the crime, claimed that the witness Polyakova had misidentified herself. She could not see him on the evening of the theft, since he had been at home all day, reading a book. In addition, it was quite dark at the time the crime was committed, and the area near the victim’s entrance is not illuminated. The investigator decided to conduct an investigative experiment.
What type of investigative experiment should be conducted in this situation? What is its purpose? What actions should be taken to reconstruct the situation and how should they be reflected in the protocol of the investigative experiment?
Task No. 3.
3. Information was received from operational sources that the suspect in the robbery case, Utkin, was hiding the pistol with which he committed the crime in the private house of his partner Vetrova. The hiding place is located in the window sill of the second window from the entrance to the bedroom.
Determine the investigative action that should be taken in order to seize the pistol. Name tactical techniques that can be used to detect a pistol, taking into account keeping the source of operational information secret.
